Harvesting the experience…
Safari Herbs & Spices
Standards & assurance
Independent audits and globally recognized programmes underpin every harvest we grow, pack, and export from the foothills of Mount Kenya.
Our commitment
At Safari Herbs farm in Naromoru, certification is not a label on a box—it is how we operate. From indoor and outdoor production at 1,900 m elevation to on-farm grading, packing, refrigeration, and cold-truck dispatch, our programmes align with what EU, UK, and UAE buyers require: food safety, organic integrity, ethical labour, and environmental care.
Verified organic from seed to export documentation
Our organic certification confirms that Safari Herbs herbs are grown and handled without synthetic pesticides, GMOs, or prohibited inputs—backed by independent auditors who inspect our Naromoru farm and post-harvest operations.
Organic integrity begins in the soil: composting, crop rotation, and biological pest management on our indoor and outdoor production blocks at 1,900 metres above sea level.
Every harvest is segregated, graded, and packed under organic handling protocols before cold storage and dispatch. Batch records tie each carton to plot, harvest date, and handling team.
Wholesale partners receive organic certificates and transaction documentation suitable for EU, UK, and UAE import requirements.
Scope of certification: Cultivation, harvest, grading, packing, on-farm refrigeration, and export preparation.
Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service
KEPHIS (Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service) is Kenya's regulatory authority for plant health, phytosanitary standards, and the inspection of agricultural produce destined for export. Safari Herbs works within KEPHIS requirements so every shipment meets importing-country plant-health rules.
Our farm and packhouse operations follow KEPHIS guidance on pest monitoring, approved treatments, record-keeping, and produce traceability—essential for fresh herbs leaving Naromoru for EU, UK, and UAE markets.
Pre-export inspection and phytosanitary certification confirm that consignments are free from regulated pests and diseases and comply with the phytosanitary measures of the destination country.
By maintaining KEPHIS alignment, we protect our customers from border rejections, safeguard Kenya's export reputation, and deliver herbs that arrive with the documentation international buyers expect.
Scope of certification: Plant health, phytosanitary inspection, pest control records, and export clearance for fresh produce.
Good Agricultural Practice for global food safety
Global G.A.P. (Good Agricultural Practices) is the benchmark our retail and food-service buyers trust for safe, responsible fresh produce. It structures how we manage risk from field hygiene to refrigerated transport.
Our quality-driven management team implements G.A.P. protocols across planting media, irrigation water, integrated pest management, and sanitation in packhouses.
Workers receive training on hygiene, chemical storage, and emergency procedures. Equipment, crates, and cold rooms are cleaned and monitored to documented schedules.
Corrective actions and internal audits close gaps before external inspections—ensuring we consistently meet customer quality expectations.
Scope of certification: Farm operations, packhouse, cold chain handoff, and management systems.
Horticultural Crops Directorate Authority
HCDA (Horticultural Crops Directorate Authority) oversees the development and regulation of Kenya's horticultural sector—including registration, quality standards, and export facilitation for fresh crops such as herbs. Safari Herbs operates in line with HCDA requirements for professional horticultural export from the Mount Kenya region.
As an export-oriented herb farm, we meet HCDA expectations on crop registration, production records, grading, and alignment with national horticultural quality norms before produce enters international supply chains.
HCDA frameworks support traceable, grade-consistent shipments—complementing our on-farm sorting, packing, and cold-chain processes so EU, UK, and UAE customers receive herbs that match agreed specifications.
Engagement with HCDA keeps Safari Herbs connected to policy updates, export procedures, and sector best practices that strengthen Kenya's position as a trusted source of fresh horticultural products.
Scope of certification: Horticultural crop regulation, export facilitation, grading standards, and sector compliance for fresh herbs.
How we stay compliant
A dedicated quality team manages certification year-round—not only before inspections.
Scheduled checks across fields, packhouses, and cold rooms against each programme's control points.
Independent certifying bodies conduct annual and unannounced audits with full access to records.
Non-conformities are logged, root-caused, and closed with evidence before the next harvest cycle.
Importer and retailer input refines handling, packaging, and documentation for every market we serve.
For buyers
Wholesale and retail partners receive certification documentation tailored to their market: organic transaction certificates, audit summaries, batch traceability reports, and cold-chain compliance records upon request.
