Harvesting the experience…

Safari Herbs & Spices

Our Impact

Fair Trade

Prosperity shared at the root—where growers set the terms and communities thrive.

Partnerships

Price floors, not price wars

Safari Herbs was founded on the belief that premium herbs should deliver premium livelihoods—not extract value from the people who grow them. From our base in Naromoru, we work with smallholder farmers and employed crews under transparent agreements that prioritise stability over volatile spot markets.

Fair trade, for us, is not a sticker—it is how we price, contract, train, and reinvest. Buyers who partner with Safari Herbs support a model where grower dignity and export quality rise together.

Economics

Contracts that respect the grower

We negotiate multi-year supply relationships where possible, with pricing formulas that account for organic certification costs, input inflation, and living-wage benchmarks for farm labour—not last-minute commodity bids that undermine planning.

Payment schedules are clear and timely. Growers know what they will earn before the season starts, and how quality bonuses or volume tiers can improve returns when they invest in best practices.

  • Transparent pricing shared before planting seasons
  • Long-term agreements with vetted partner growers
  • Quality-linked incentives for grading and food-safety compliance
  • No hidden deductions for certification or training costs

Community investment

Premiums that stay local

A portion of our trading margin supports community priorities identified with grower leadership—not imposed from abroad. Projects have included irrigation upgrades, drying infrastructure, agricultural training, and health initiatives that strengthen the workforce we depend on.

By keeping reinvestment decisions local, we ensure funds address real needs: water access in dry seasons, safer packhouse equipment, and education for the next generation of horticultural leaders in Nyeri County.

Irrigation & infrastructure

Shared investment in water efficiency and post-harvest equipment that raises yields without exhausting land or people.

Training & safety

Food-safety, hygiene, and integrated pest management workshops so crews meet export standards and work more safely.

Health & wellbeing

Support for community health access and childcare solutions that help families stay engaged in stable farm employment.

People first

Labour standards we enforce

Fair trade means nothing without dignity, safety, and equal opportunity on every plot we source from.

Fair wages

Compensation reviewed against local living costs with overtime and harvest premiums paid on time.

Safe workplaces

PPE, chemical handling protocols, and ergonomic practices in packhouses and field work.

No child labour

Zero tolerance verified through grower agreements, spot checks, and third-party audits.

Gender equity

Equal access to training, leadership roles, and fair pay regardless of gender across partner farms.

Grower network

50+ partners across the highlands

Our vetted network spans the Mount Kenya region, supported by agronomists who walk plots weekly and build relationships—not transactional buying. Partner growers receive technical support to meet organic, KEPHIS, and Global G.A.P. expectations while earning reliable income.

When you buy Safari Herbs, you are not purchasing anonymous bulk herbs—you are supporting identifiable communities whose names and stories we can document for buyers who want provenance with a human face.
